Message from the Director of OPI
Aiming to be a research center open to the public and industry
As a public university, the Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology (AIIT) is highly expected to contribute as a center for the development of the local community and industry while being more rooted there. Toward this end, based on the two major functions of a public university, which are research and education, AIIT has established an organization called the Open Institute (OPI).
OPI, as the word “open” implies, is open to those outside the university. Through various activities, we will strive to communicate closely between the university and the local community, to incorporate the individual needs of the local community, and to jointly promote problem-solving in a way that produces results. The activities that we do in cooperation with the local community and industry promote joint problem-solving using various approaches that fit specific needs and issues: for example, the planning and implementation of industry-academia joint projects with local companies, academic consultations, implementation of joint projects with other universities or the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Technology Research Institute (TIRI), and the planning and holding of public lectures and certificate programs. We are also actively engaged in research activities such as conventional joint research and funded research. In addition, we carry out special activities, including research that utilizes our global network with overseas universities.
These activities at OPI provide an extremely valuable opportunity to learn about emerging social needs and industry demands, and to further develop education and research. I believe that AIIT’s significance as a research center open to the local community will be further increased by this mutual interaction. Companies and various institutions should feel free to contact OPI if they are looking for R&D and human resource development that can lead while adapting to the changing times.
